Beautiful excursion at Rooi Dam & Rooiberg, Lourier Park

Saneliswe “Lulu” Mcasha
Rooi Dam in Lourierpark is one of the most breathe- taking sites in Bloemfontein.  We went on an outing with friends as part of my birthday celebration; it was all spontaneous and fun-filled. We enjoyed the spectacular view as we braaied our meat. We witnessed fishermen catching fish and it looked quite enjoyable and relaxing, unfortunately we did not have fishing rods but we intend on investing in them so we can go back to catch fish… After enjoying the gentle breeze and enjoying the scrumptious meat we had prepared we headed to Rooiberg.  The climb was quite tiring but when we reached the top of the hill somehow it was worth it. We sadly missed the sunset but the view from the top of the hill was still amazing. The day was memorable and the site was beautiful. We highly recommend this place to any nature lover; they would certainly enjoy Lourierpark’s attractions.  Join us we paint this empty canvas...

Beautiful Escape
The best things in life are free. On this beautiful afternoon I came to realise just how true that is...
On this particular day Lulu and I were ambushed by our friends, we surely did not expect that so early in the morning.  It was Lulu’s birthday and they wanted to treat her to a bit of adventure, so we hopped into the car and off we went. Our destination was Rooi Dam in Lourierpark and as we drove nearer to the dam my spirit felt some sense of liberation, nature always has a tranquil effect on me. Lui, Lulu and I were dropped off at the dam where were left in charge of starting the fire for the braai, while the others went to the shops to buy supplies. Neither one of us had started a fire before; after much struggle and depending solely on our natural instincts, collecting twigs and working together we finally managed to get the fire ready.
We sat next to the stream while the meat was on the coals and conversed about anything you could possibly think of and of course we could not leave out the comical talk too *chuckles*. When we finished our meal we decided to explore the dam and watch the sunset, a breath-taking view indeed. Our next exploration was the Rooiberg and since Ace had been to the hill on numerous occasions, naturally he was appointed our guide. We walked on a hiking trail and after much panting we finally reached the top of the hill where there was a beautiful panorama of the City of Roses. We stood there in silence and admired the view before us. In a time when people are ostentatious, we have found that a gathering with your friends, the outdoors and a picturesque view is more fulfilling than going to a posh club. This day will be noted as one of the most memorable events in my life. A day that was so simple yet so beautiful, what more can a girl ask for? Thanks to our friends Ace, Demo, Lui and Sylvester, you fellows are the best!
If you are looking for an escape but can’t afford to go on a road trip Rooiberg and Rooi Dam is the perfect place to spend time with your family and friends.
P.S. don’t forget your fishing rods!
